It’s amazing how quickly this ‘Alpha MAGA male’ tortoise can stand up to its delicate little flowers (or snowflakes, if you prefer) in the face of serious accusations. They play the oppressed victim almost naturally like a cruel, emotionless, in-your-face MAGA.
Republican Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson laid out the personality traits of all Wisconsin voters to see last night in his debate against Democratic challenger Lieutenant Mandela Barnes. From Yahoo news:
Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) had a raucous audience laughing during his campaign debate Thursday when he complained that the FBI had “created it.” Johnson was responding to an attack by his Democratic rival, Lieutenant Mandela Barnes, that the senator had once warned him that the Kremlin was trying to turn him into “Russian assets.”
Johnson responded by responding to Barnes’ “wild charge”. His claim that “the FBI put me in a corrupt brief and then leaked it to distort my hearing” drew laughter from the debate audience. Johnson accused the FBI of being tainted with corruption, which he said was “trying to expose and expose” (a point that was met with more public laughter).
The FBI has a lot of flaws, as we learn from the January 6 hearings. But when it comes to counterintelligence and protecting the country from Russia, the FBI will not prepare anyone. Oddly enough, Johnson certainly “looked like” a Russian asset in the past few years in much the same way that Trump’s behavior “sounded” the behavior of someone under Russia’s thumb. Perhaps that explains the laughter. But no one has ever given any direct evidence, and therefore, it is just speculation and optics. One need not speculate that Johnson was at the forefront of the January 6 whitewashing as the man who referred to the attack as some sort of raucous Capitol tour.
As the article notes, Johnson has a long history of making outlandish claims that are somehow worth laughing at were it not for her grief:
After the January 6, 2021 riots in the US Capitol, Johnson in a radio interview defended the attackers as “peaceful”, calling them “people who love this country, Really respect the law enforcementAnd the [who] You wouldn’t do anything to break the law.” He said it was going to be ‘Anxiety’, though, if black troublemakers were a matter of life Demonstrators rather than a crowd instigated by then-President Donald Trump.
Officer Fanon barely managed to get out alive at the “peaceful” demonstration. The coroner’s report on Officer Seknik’s death stated that the attack on the Capitol “contributed” to the strokes that were the cause of death on the night of January 6. It’s not funny that Johnson would literally “in white” wash away the rebellion and even admit that he would be worried, however, if Black Lives Matter got involved in such a protest.
All of this makes for horrific optics because Johnson’s opponent, Barnes, is a black man. Johnson is the weakest senator from MAGA but recently advanced to six points. Humiliating himself on the debate stage may turn things around for Mandela Barnes.
