Harriet Pennington Legg: The three of us officially met this spring. Our ambition was to create a company with a clear identity with writers and filmmakers at its heart. What we admired each other from afar was that we all had discerning tastes and had nurtured our client lists in similar ways – by supporting our instincts and talents often from a very young stage and turning that into meaningful businesses that I like to think stood out in the UK landscape . Limit: What is the company structure?

ROXANA ADLE: We are three equal partners. Each of us has our own menu but many of the decisions we made about how we operate day in and day out were based on a desire to encourage unfiltered collaboration within the team, support each other and advocate for each other’s customers – which is both effortless and fun when your tastes align and you are a small enough team. . Working in this way, we have also learned a great deal from each other in the short period of time as we have had such different approaches, which we can now put to work for the benefit of all our customers. For me personally, Sophie’s boundless ambition has truly changed my perspective on catching big fish, and Harriet’s keen attention to detail and involvement at every stage of the process has been a master lesson.

Limit: What projects have your clients appeared on the marketR?

Pennington Legg: Too many to list here but we are excited to collaborate with clients recently. Bringing artists together has never been more important and will continue to play a central role for us. For years, we’ve been watching each other’s work from afar and now we have front row seats. Sophie DolanWe want to create a truly taste-driven agency, where quality trumps quantity every time. We all have a very global approach to business, have great ambition for our customers, but always want to conduct business with integrity.

Limit: Was it daunting being on your own after working for bigger companies?

Dolan: It wasn’t remotely daunting. On the contrary – it just felt natural and invigorating. In terms of timing, both of us felt confident that we were at the right stage in our relationships and careers to strike out on our own and were excited to work together that is stronger than the sum of our parts. If anything, letting go of the confines and structures of larger agencies has been liberating – we can all now fully focus on what we find exciting and why we chose this career in the first place – forming deep relationships with creatives we believe in, building their rosters and helping them navigate the landscape. Limit: How did you know each other?

ADLE: Our relationship grew naturally through a mutual admiration for each other’s work and a desire for our clients to work together, so we were always reporting scripts and directors to each other. ADLE: There are a lot of them, but there are just as many that come to mind except for A24, Sister, Pastel, Element, and Plan B; Companies with a strong identity and purposeful businesses built on bold creative voices. I really admire what Emma Patterson at Aitken Alexander does in publishing; Those customers who play a role in shaping the cultural landscape rather than reacting to trendy trends.

Pennington LeggIn the short term, we want to focus on uniting and investing in our great team and will always want to grow from within. Moreover, we are open and excited about the next stage, but as we grow, we will be very thoughtful and specific.

Limit: You are based in London. Would you like to add other bases elsewhere – Los Angeles, for example?

Dolan: We don’t feel like we need to. We feel very comfortable doing business in the US and embrace all the opportunities that come with it and love working closely with producers, financiers, our agency and management partners there.

Limit: Who are some of your most recent signings?

Pennington Legg: We took the opportunity to contract with people. One element of the job that I’m particularly excited about is supporting someone transitioning from one creative discipline to another. Earlier this year Roxana and I signed on to a famous author, who is now screenwriter and director Emir McBride. We were both big fans of Emmer’s novel Little Bohemians So when Theo Barrowclaw showed off her screenplay adaptation on our desk, it was a real thrill.

I hope to be able to add value and feel well positioned to provide it to filmmakers and materials at an early stage. For example, I just worked with Roxana Mahalia Belo’s client The end where we startand is in development with a very exciting director on a project based on her chosen documentary, in which she will star.

Limit: There has been a fair amount of mergers, acquisitions and spin-offs in the UK agency space in recent years. What do you think of where the UK agency is working at the moment?

Dolan: With all the consolidation going on both in the UK and US agency space, as well as of course in the larger industry, it feels like a particularly strong time to do something different and off the pack; We make our own standalone thing in our own way, with our clients and their work at the center of it.

Limit: Where do you see the main opportunities for talent today?

Dolan: Opportunities are everywhere and jobs are defined by surprising choices. Sometimes the best opportunities don’t come from the most obvious place.

Pennington Legg: And while control and independence are important and we will always try to dedicate it to our clients, we never underestimate the importance of having a truly excellent competitive partner. So, pairing our clients with the people who will enable them to do their best work.

Limit: How far will your new hires come from the US, UK or continental Europe?

ADLE: Our client list represents the fact that we have never had a local approach to business nor placed a certain value on what was considered ‘mainstream’. It has been encouraging and validating to see the entertainment landscape open up to a wider range of voices.
