In a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, the Lincoln Project said:

Having led the violent January 6, 2021 rebellion against the peaceful transfer of power, Trump’s statement is yet another grim reminder of his desire to destroy the Constitution, overthrow the rule of law, and disregard our democratic traditions to attain absolute power. He has no interest in the nation, only his pursuit of power and money for himself and his family.

Every Republican in the country should have condemned Trump’s comments immediately. Instead, followers like Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell have once again shown their weaknesses as leaders. Too afraid to confront Trump for fear of his violent and angry base.

Donald Trump and the MAGA movement must be defeated or the American experiment will end. Americans must come together, put their political differences aside, and confront the existential threat posed by Donald Trump and his anti-democratic supporters in 2024.

The reason Trump remains a strong candidate to lock in the Republican nomination in 2024 is because Republicans in power are still afraid of him.

Kevin McCarthy will never condemn Trump, and Mitch McConnell They will dance around directly condemning the former president. McConnell will say crucial things but won’t connect them directly to Trump.

Republican primary voters will not reject Trump as a group. If the field is crowded in 2024, Trump would only need 30%-35% of the primary vote to vacate the nomination if the anti-Trump vote is split between several candles.

People need to put aside their political differences and realize that Trump wants to end democracy. It is an immediate threat that must be defeated and it will take a national multi-party coalition committed to saving democracy to do so.
