If Herschel Walker’s campaign could be distilled into any one thing, it would be all about ugliness, a dark cloud. According to Joe Scarborough, it makes the campaign the perfect lab to experience just how low MAGA has gone.
If one were to limit the assessment of Herschel Walker’s candidacy to his past business failures, there would be a simple background littered with accusations of fraud and mismanagement. In a normal race, that would be a huge hurdle, probably insurmountable. Walker’s story on core business failures in the past and his downsides to dealing with allegations of domestic violence that went beyond a “one-off catastrophic day,” was a recurring pattern that Walker seems to bump into mental health a bit as well. But it’s open, in your face condemning it along with the real record that is probably definitive. Walker likes to claim that he is “redeemed” and thus forgives him for everything he has done. Fine. But even three days ago, he was telling such a big lie about his true views on abortion that his son called on Walker to demolish it. The Redeemer in his faith is so different from being replaced by society that he deserves a seat in the United States Senate.
hideous. That ugliness, Scarborough says, is what makes it the perfect test of MAGA’s willingness to go as low as possible to “own libs”.
All of this comes even before we get to the fact that Republicans understand that he is ineligible to be a Senator. The issues are not known. He can’t talk about any issues in a convincing way, and it makes absolutely no sense, this is almost a perfect lab experiment about how low Republican voters are willing to quote, “Own the Lips.” Not worth it. “
Oh yes. There is that. He knows nothing about the government or the issues the Senate is facing. Of course, hardly limited to Walker, one could say the same about Senator Toberville or a senator who wants to be Mehmet Oz, though – admittedly Walker takes the lack of understanding to a different level. One cannot say that of Walker’s opponent, the Reverend Ebenezer the Baptist who never disturbs his faith in anyone’s face, he is a true Senate intellectual and a caring person who makes no excuses for anything.
But Scarborough’s unique note is worth considering. Yesterday, Maggie Haberman Tell Nicole Wallace Why Trump loved Walker’s campaign so much:
“It’s lowering the bar and eroding the bar. Trump wants to show that nothing matters. To show that there are no red lines anymore makes him always happy.”
It is the gateway to tyranny. The more Trump’s MAGA scraps the rules, the less important the rules will be. The old rules would have wiped Walker clean before the primaries. But the old rules assumed some standard, the Enlightenment, that there was something sacred to be protected. This new environment, Scarborough says, is a critical test of whether there is anything substantive to the election, or whether loyalty to the movement is all that matters now.
It is a careful note, which should be taken into strong consideration during the last month of the campaign. Do MAGAs have any limits anymore? Or is it all in personality cult and authoritarian tendencies? We will find. Remember, Walker isn’t just facing “anyone”. He’s running against a star. The race hangs in the balance. Test, in fact.
