Great news for democracy as Pennsylvania’s governor’s race moves to potential Democrat

Published

The governor’s race was essential to democracy because the Secretary of State was appointed to Pennsylvania. The good news is that the race has likely turned democratic.

In addition, Mastariano did little to get beyond his core group of supporters to try to make headway with independent voters. It’s clear at this point that Shabrio is likely to pick up on a large portion of traditional Republican voters as well who simply see Mastariano, who helped get people to Washington on January 6, 2021, too radical on both abortion (he does not support exceptions) and on elections ( where he will appoint a foreign minister who can overturn the results of 2024).

Shapiro held his lead over Mastriano steadily. Notably, most surveys have Shaprio above 50 percent. Again, this may not be a double-digit victory in the end. However, it’s hard to see a scenario in which Mastriano wins, and we don’t think a race in which a candidate has yet to appear on TV six weeks later is a race we can consider contending anymore. The race moves from the soft to the potentially democratic.

Pennsylvania has a large group of Republican voters who are not supporters of Donald Trump’s far-right. Attorney General Josh Shapiro spent months appealing to these voters and campaigning against the extremism of Doug Mastiriano.

Mastriano He has no money. It doesn’t attract any crowds, and its campaign is nearly invisible outside the lawn signs in the reddest counties in the state.

Republicans threw tens of millions of dollars in anti-Futterman ads on the state in the Senate race, but no one is helping Mastariano, who appears to have been put on the political raft and his party has pushed him overboard.

It would be a major victory for democracy and a blow to Trump’s illusions in the 2024 coup if Josh Shapiro is elected as Pennsylvania’s next governor, and another sign that the worst-case scenario for the state and the nation will be avoided.
