What do you think the rest of your daily makeup routine would look like?
It’s weird, I always joke about how I wore so much makeup when I was younger than I do now. Now, I just prefer more natural [look]. I think we are all very lucky that what there is now is very natural skin and natural makeup. It works to our advantage that it is in trend. I like to do tinted sunscreen so I have a kind of an even base. Kosas concealer is actually my favorite—I’m obsessed with it. I also love Tower 28 Cream Blush and Chanel Cream Bronzer.
I’m obsessed with using [the brow pen] Now out of my collection because it’s such a versatile product. I will use it in my brows only to fill in sparse areas. Do you know when you apply your makeup and concealer that covers your natural beauty marks? I like to go beyond the beauty tags and redefine them so they don’t get lost. Then sometimes I like to add a little freckle. I always think this sounds really nice – I would do it very minimally. I’ve also recently started curling my eyelashes and not applying mascara. I don’t know why, but I love it! Finally, I’m totally obsessed with lip liner, and I can’t do without it. I have one in every wallet everywhere I travel. It is very good.
Let’s talk about your new collection with Morphe, Changement! What inspired the group and how did it all come together?
It started with me talking about how much I have evolved since we put together my first Morphe collection. I was like, “Yeah, I’m a lot older. My style is changing, and I’m evolving.” For some reason, it got me thinking about change, which is literally a dance term that translates to change. I thought it was a clever play on my dance background, but also exactly what we created for this group, which is evolving. Like the weather, it’s always changing [and] Always up and down. It’s always evolving and the seasons change, so I made that in as well because I kind of wanted to play on that. I thought it would be a really fun concept to take pictures and all the pictures behind the products because I thought we could do something fun that looked like water. Names [of the products] And the whole painting is based on growth, change and evolution. There are also some plays about weather terms like “hurricane” and “hurricane” – things like that.
Do you have any favorite looks you’d like to create with the collection?
I’m pretty obsessed with these colors just because they’re not what we were initially striving for. At first we were going to do all the pastels and we weren’t getting the formulas right – I didn’t feel like it. Then I found this deep blue shade that I now call precipitation. It’s my favorite shade on the color palette and I was like, “That’s it—I need this!” Then we decided to play that and started doing deeper tones, which I think works really well now that we’re moving into the fall. I just love the direction we’re going. What I love about it the most is having a shade called Reflex which is literally the first shade in the palette and it’s really pretty on its own, but you can also make it appear in all of the campaign photos. If you cover it over a heavy shadow, it changes its reflection and creates this new beautiful two-tone shade. I love him so much and I am so proud of him.
This is a really cool concept for the board. It almost reminded me of Pat McGrath’s eyeshadow when I saw the shadows. Her eye shadows are amazing! What about your everyday eye look? Do you have any favorites you’d like to create with the color palette?
She was definitely an inspiration! Now (as I was telling you), I love the natural look – that’s my go-to. With this painting, I wanted to do both [natural and glamorous shades] Because I’ve never been in the middle. Either I work in crazy blue [look] With eyes pictured or keep it natural. There are a few really beautiful transitional shades that look really nice on every skin tone—they’re just really cool shades. I usually take transition shades and will run them through my folds. There is also a really lovely beige shade that I love. That’s kind of my job now only because it adds dimension and adds life to the face, but it’s not overpowering. There are some shades in the palette – like this really nice red – I’ll sometimes apply on my cheeks and it looks really cool. I better do it.
I love using eye shadow as blush! It’s so cute when the shades work perfectly for both.
I agree! You can create a cohesive look and add it to eye shadows as well. It looks really beautiful.
If you had to pick one item from the set to use for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I would choose the board because you can do everything with it. Like I was saying, you can contour the face, use blush – you can also use it honestly on your lips, and your eyebrows too. So I would say that for sure.
