Alleged killer still on the run 3 years after Tampa Bay mom shot to death

Enrique Toledo admitted to killing his wife, allegedly took off his ankle monitor, and hasn’t been seen since.

The victim’s family is devastated and calling for accountability.

Thursday marks three years since her murder, and her family plans to do everything she loved to do.

Heather Toledo’s family lives every day looking over their shoulder not knowing where Toledo could be.

Toledo called 911 and told the operator he killed his wife at their Valrico home in front of one daughter, with their two other girls in a nearby room on July 3, 2022. Toledo was arrested on a first-degree murder charge and was released on a $150,000 bail.

The night before a hearing to revoke the bond for violating a no contact order with his kids, Toledo allegedly cut off his ankle monitor and vanished.

The county paid Roche Monitoring Services to supply toledo’s ankle bracelet, but the company said the manufacturer oversaw the monitoring the device.

Heather’s brother and sister-in-law, Michelle Green, took in their three kids.

“It’s so one person who took another person’s life who’s affecting a family every single day of our lives,” Green said.

Green continues to call for accountability as she feels mistakes were made.

“Just to get bond, in general, number one mistake,” she said. “His ankle monitor being cut off and no one being notified for 14 hours, number two mistake. The bondsman, the clerk, filing the paperwork wrong, no accountability, third mistake.”

8 On Your Side took Green’s concerns to the Hillsborough County Clerk of Court since it hired the third-party ankle monitoring service. In its statement, which was the same as in 2023, it was focused on the court’s decision — saying since the judge revoked the bond, the bondsman who guaranteed the $150,000 bond does not owe the money.

But as Green and Heather’s daughters wait for answers, they honor her legacy.

“We just try to have fun; that’s the best way to remember her,” Green said. “She was full of life full of fun love to laugh and play jokes so that’s what we do.”

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued Toledo’s arrest warrant in December of 2022.

“We are prepared to prosecute the case when the defendant is back in our jurisdiction,” the state attorney’s office said.
